i went raw vegan while living in china (mainly because i was scared of the food) after being vegetarian for twenty years. the change from vegetarian to vegan was relatively simple--i found that i didn't miss certain foods as much as i expected. i was tired and drained the first week (detoxing), but after that hurdle, things were perfect. i woke up with energy, felt the urge to exercise and bring my body to its optimum strength, and have never experienced mental clarity quite that way. i stopped after about six months because my weight dropped to 100 lbs (i'm 5'8), and nothing i ate would bring it back up....even eating 3000 cals/day. of course, i felt great, and i'm rather small-boned, but i was even too skeletal for fashion's sake and stopped booking jobs--even runway shows. the switch back to cooked and (eventually) processed foods was awful--stomach pains and exhaustion for about three weeks....not to mention an added thirty pounds in only three months. i felt sluggish, lazy, toxic. the smell of your body is different when you eat these terrible foods....when you're only eating healthy, raw vegan foods, your skin clears, your breath is better, you don't seem to smell like garbage if you don't wake up and shower RIGHT THAT SECOND. now that i'm back to a "healthy" 125, i've switched back to the raw diet and plan on restricting exercise to low-impact yoga and pilates-style stretching and walking. never in my life have i had a weight problem, but i never thought i'd be one of those* girls that can eat anything they want, until i went raw vegan and pretty much ate non-stop for six months. the raw diet is surprisingly satisfying and becomes a lifestyle--you never feel like you're deprived of your favorite foods because your body is conditioned to appreciate the feeling of nutrition instead of taste. you learn how important it is to EAT TO LIVE, DON'T LIVE TO EAT, and that simple switch in mentality carries into boosting confidence, fitness, happiness, freedom, and vitality. try the raw lifestyle, if only for a "30-day period." it's guaranteed to change your life for the better.
