Warming Foods For the Winter

Stumble it!

During the winter months, some on a raw diet look for warming foods. Normally after some time on the raw food diet, the want for physically heated foods diminishes for most.

For those looking to 'warm' up in the colder months, here's a list of warming foods from raw food coach Karen Knowler:

  • Legumes, sprouted
  • Carrots
  • Squash
  • Parsnips
  • Beetroot
  • Walnuts
  • Coconut
  • Dates
  • Red pepper
  • Pine Nuts
  • Chilies

And since most coconuts found in the US are treated with preservatives and fungicides to survive the 3 week boat ride, I found out from fellow natural health evangelist Kevin Gianni a source where you can get fresh organic young coconuts. Kevin recommended visiting Genefitnutrition. They can deliver them within 48 hours from Thailand, where they are grown, and are 100% certified organic.

We're now enjoying the winter months here in Arizona with a fresh crop of locally grown organic citrus fruits including delicious navel oranges, pink grapefruit, juicy lemons and tangy limes. Here's one of my favorite winter dishes, a grapefruit tahini salad.
