I spoke too soon. I am in my 3rd week of raw juice for breakfast and some fruits/vegetables/nuts afterwards. I made the mistake of eating raw carrots 5 days in a row. Earlier, I used to vary between guavas, carrots, or bananas, but this time I ate carrots 5 days in a row. Right now my body hurts in places I never knew existed before (I'm not joking), and when I woke up in the morning I was feeling cold from inside. I had a sunbath for half an hour before going to bed again. It is extremely uncomfortable even to lie down and I have about had it. I think I made a mistake eating just vegetables 5 days in a row, and will start to go raw all over again. This time I'll alternate between fruits and vegetables. Hope I start feeling better tomorrow.

Thanks for your kind reply. I am going ahead and I reckon that going too slowly on raw is not something that one can choose, or perhaps it was the effect of the herbs that I have been taking for close to two years, but I did not experience severe detox symptoms. I did lose weight rapidly, though, and I was not fat to begin with (weight 65 KG before starting) . Couple of days ago, when I was feeding seeds to birds, I drooled at the thought of eating them myself :), so yes, I would say that the transition is happening automatically. I still think that I would be off tobacco by February, but maybe raw food has other ideas. Once again, thank you for your guidance.

Thanks for you comment. Sure thing, you can transition as quickly as you feel comfortable. Many suggest transitioning slowly, adding more raw foods every day until you are 100%. It sometimes depends on how much detox you're experiencing. The faster you go through it, in my opinion, the better, but others recommend the slower approach. I think it just makes it harder since you're detoxing slowly and more opportunity to give in to cravings, etc. Yes, since eggs animal foods they don't work on a raw vegan diet :) Regarding the tobacco, many have reported that after some time on a raw vegan diet they start to lose the desire for any tobacco, as well as alcohol and other addictive substances, so you'll probably see the same results during or after your transition. The body lets go of a lot of things during this time, both physically and mentally as it's cleansing. Hope this helps and all the best on your transition! Mark - BTW, you may enjoy the Live Food Factor, answers many of your questions in detail plus provides case studies and science to back it up.

Hello, all. I have some questions and I wonder if someone will help me.I had a nervous breakdown in 1997, and started treatment for it almost two years ago. I am about 90% better, and my panic attacks and chronic anxiety are gone. I was treated by a naturopath, and I was on herbs and natural supplements. I read about the raw vegan diet and have started having at least one meal of raw fruits. I also have started drinking vegetable juice for breakfast. What I want to know is - how soon do I make the transition to 100% raw ? Also, I eat 3-4 boiled eggs along with some salad for dinner, do I have to quit them ? Another thing, I use smokeless tobacco (am coming off, but doctor says to go slow, and to quit by March), and I am able to go only about an hour without it - so when I do have a raw meal, I have to use tobacco after an hour. Will it nullify the effects of the raw diet ?

If you look at the carbon footprint of a meat-eating Prius driver and a vegetarian Hummer driver (unlikely as the combination may be) you'll see that the vegetarian Hummer driver actually has a lower carbon footprint than the meat-eating Prius driver.

I live in an area with Prius drivers who spend $20,000 actually believe they're doing something "green". If they were to simply change their diet, they would probably be a lot greener with the cars that they already have, and probably even save some cash on food as well.

Our society needs to take another look at the real causes of excessive carbon dioxide production.
